Sound familiar?

It’s 2:14 AM. The baby is finally asleep.
So why aren’t you?

You did the feed. The burp. The swaddle. You laid her down so carefully you barely breathed.

Now you’re back in bed. Your body feels like it’s made of concrete. And your brain? Wide awake.

Every grunt from the bassinet makes you jump. You check the monitor. Then again. You start doing the math: if I fall asleep right now, I get two hours and six minutes. And the pressure of that number is exactly what keeps you awake.

Beside you, your partner is out cold. And tomorrow, someone will smile and tell you to “just sleep when the baby sleeps.”

You would. If your brain would let you.

First, the most important thing: this isn’t your fault.

Lying awake when you finally have the chance to sleep is incredibly common after having a baby. It even has a name: postpartum insomnia. Nobody mentions it at the baby shower, so most moms think it’s just them. It isn’t.

Why it happens

Your brain is still on night watch.

After birth, a mother’s brain shifts into a protective “night watch” mode, alert to every sound so her baby stays safe. Three things stack up to keep it switched on, even when your baby is sound asleep:

1

Your calming hormones drop

During pregnancy, progesterone, a hormone with natural calming effects, runs high. Within days of birth, it drops sharply.

2

Your brain stays on alert

It’s built to scan for every breath and grunt so your baby stays safe. It doesn’t always switch off when the danger has passed.

3

2 AM sends the wrong signals

Phone screens, hallway lights and counting down the minutes all tell your brain to wake up at exactly the wrong moment.

New moms were never meant to stand the watch alone.

For most of history, mothers, sisters and grandmothers took shifts. Traditions like the Chinese zuo yuezi and Latin American la cuarentena gave new mothers 30 to 40 days of protected rest.

Today, most of us stand the night watch solo, under phone light, with a partner back at work and a return-to-work date of our own. No wonder the watchman never clocks out.

Why nothing has worked

Too weak, or too heavy. Nothing in between.

That’s why “try some chamomile” never touched it, and why the strong stuff felt like too big a risk.

Too weak

“Just relax” remedies

  • Tea and warm milk
  • White noise and meditation apps
  • Perfect “sleep hygiene” routines
  • Magnesium drinks that send you to the bathroom
Lovely rituals. No match for a brain on night watch.
Too heavy

Heavy sleep aids

  • Over-the-counter sleep pills
  • High-dose melatonin, often 5–10 mg
  • That heavy, foggy feeling the next morning
  • The worry: “Will I hear my baby?”
Too big a risk when you’re the one on duty.

What you need isn’t a knock-out. It’s a gentle signal that it’s night, and it’s safe to rest.

The NightWatch tin and a wrapped strip on berry satin
Introducing NightWatch™

A gentle signal, not a knock-out.

NightWatch™ is a thin, raspberry-flavored strip made for the space in between: gentler than heavy sleep aids, more than a cup of tea.*

Just 1 mg of melatonin

Melatonin is your body’s natural “it’s nighttime” signal. Many sleep gummies pack 5–10 mg. We use a gentle 1 mg, because more isn’t always better.

Four calming botanicals

Valerian root, lavender, chamomile and hibiscus: plants traditionally used to help you unwind at night.

No water. No lights. No getting up.

The strip dissolves right on your tongue, so you can stay tucked in, in the dark, instead of breaking the night to find a glass of water.

Why we made NightWatch

After my daughter was born, I’d lie awake at 2 AM while she slept, exhausted but wired. Tea didn’t help, and high-dose melatonin gave me nightmares. My brain was stuck on night watch. So I made NightWatch, a gentle low-dose strip you take right in bed, so you can rest too.

Made by a tired mom, for every mom on night watch.

Rest is not selfish

At about $1 a night, it’s a small thing to do for the person your whole family relies on.

Questions

Honest answers for careful moms.

Can I take NightWatch™ while breastfeeding?

Please check with your doctor or lactation consultant first. Melatonin is naturally present in breast milk, but research on supplements while nursing is limited, so your provider is the right person to help you decide. Every ingredient and dose is listed on this page to make that conversation easy.

Will I feel groggy in the morning?

Each strip has just 1 mg of melatonin, a fraction of the 5–10 mg in many sleep gummies. Everyone responds differently, so see how it feels for you.

Will I still hear my baby?

We designed NightWatch™ to be gentle, not a knock-out, but everyone responds differently. Try it first on a night when another adult can help with the baby, and don’t use it if you’re bed-sharing.

I’ve tried melatonin before. How is this different?

Many melatonin products contain 5–10 mg. NightWatch™ uses a gentle 1 mg, paired with calming botanicals, in a strip you take without water or getting out of bed.

How do I take it?

Place 1 strip on your tongue daily and let it dissolve. Take it as part of your bedtime wind-down. Don’t exceed one strip a day.

What does it taste like?

Raspberry, lightly sweetened, with no sugar.

How long does one tin last?

Each tin holds 30 strips: one month at one strip a day.

How do the bundles work?

Buy 2 tins for $59.99 and we’ll add a third tin free: 90 nights in total. Or buy 3 tins for $89.99 and get 2 extra tins free: 150 nights in total. Every bundle ships free.

What if it doesn’t work for me?

You’re covered by our 30-night guarantee. Contact us within 30 days of delivery for a full refund.

Is shipping free?

Yes. Shipping is free on every order.
